Harkers of Stockton-on-Tees are probably the best-known and most highly respected sub contract engineers in the British Isles. Founded in 1878 by Francis Todd Harker, one of the foremost steam engineer of his generation, they for many years manufactured triple expansion steam engines for both marine and shore installation. So well were these engines made that they became a byword for quality and reliability, not only within the United Kingdom, but throughout the British Empire and its Commonwealth.
Today, Harkers continues in the ownership of the same family, being run by a great grandson and great great grandson of the founder. The same dedication to excellence and quality that established this unique business continues to guide their every action. In addition to power generation, Harkers have a superb division covering aerospace component manufacture, which is at the very forefront of machining technology. These engines long outlasted the boilers to which they were attached, and often even the ships in which they were installed.
We at Fairfield Industries are proud to have been appointed sole agents for their complete reorganisation and disposal programme. We shall do our utmost to see that the very high standards of excellence and integrity that the Harkers name confers shall not be misplaced.
